The intentions behind these protests are good. It would be effective in normal times - when lawmakers needed to care about the opinions of their constituents. Senators and representatives from around the country should see the mass amounts of people showing up at their capitol buildings and elsewhere around their states and take that as a signal to start listening. But that’s simply not gonna happen. Spending a Saturday afternoon holding clever signs will not cut it. The protests need to be unrelenting and localized. People need to go to DC. Surround the buildings these people are actually in. 24/7. In MASS numbers. From now until this ends. It needs to be something they can’t ignore. They need to be forced out of their holes. Is this practical? Of course not. We have jobs and families and other obligations. But still, this is the only way to be effective…which is why nothing is going to change.
Again, I keep asking. What is your list of demands? You have less than Occupy Wall St in terms of any specific grievances or actions that you want happen. And it's not about "removal" or just anti-orange-man. This doesn't cut it because there is nothing behind this. Maybe try to think about protests and movements to change things that were effective?
APril 5 was very clear. "Hands off!': social security, medicare/aid, immigrants, healthcare, federal workers and agencies. Stop the endless illegal actions that have occurred since January. In other words, Congress and SCOTUS do your jobs and be the checks and balances. It isn't rocket surgery, Ace
SS and Medicare, etc, are bipartisan issues that everyone would unite for had they truly been taken away or in danger if getting immediately discontinued for the people who need them. If people started losing social security and medicare, starve, become homeless en masse and refused medical care when injured or ill they would be rioting in the streets themselves without any help from financially comfortable middle aged liberals flocking to protest. Immigrants? Unfortunately you are delusional if you think all Americans are united about the issue with granting benefits and housing for the illegal border crossers and recruiting them overseas to come here en masse. I think you can convince rational people to grant legal status to people who had been here for a while and/or had been WORKING and supporting themselves. You could certainly demand more judicial scrutiny around deportations, but it's locally handled and some cases are already in review. I think it will be another issue that will fix itself. But return to the previous 4 years isn't going to happen. Judicial system is already challenging many things that came to pass in the last few months. Saying our checks and balances aren't working is baseless IMHO. This also concerns federal workers and agencies. Some people had been asked back to work, this is happening. Recklessness is being checked, it's a matter of time. But expecting that things will get back to the same level as before isn't realistic. Reductions to government workforce happened before under other administrations, some rather drastic. You cannot expect that everyone will get their funding back. There are no demands here other than better judicial oversight when it comes to deportations to makes sure people don't get wrongfully deported (valid demand) and giving more scrutiny to mass staff reductions making sure crucial projects don't skip the beat.
