And why for that matter does a sitting president need to go offline for that long for debate prep? If he is supposedly engaging on these issues and making decisions on them every single day, surely the job itself should be sufficient prep?

I’ve been thinking about this too.  Why did he need 10 days to learn the material?  The questions were on topics he, in theory, focuses on daily.  There were no surprises from the moderators.  A day or two of Prep to learn how to debate, sure.  But, 10 days of cramming material like he’s some kid in college who never attends class, is concerning, to put it mildly.  No one…absolutely no one…should know the issues and the policy implications better than him.  [/quote]
