My life is awesome, fun, and rewarding without kids. Last time I asked my brother and sister-in-law how they were doing now that they have three kids, they said “surviving.” Almost all of my family and friends with kids seem miserable. Meanwhile, my husband and I travel the world helping others and leaving a different legacy. I can’t imagine why anyone desires to have kids.
Wait till you are old and not of sane mind. Who will manage your care? Not saying caring for you - managing the caregivers? I see so many old people taken advantage of in various ways, it’s sad.
I've worked in both long-term care and assisted living facilities. If you think only those with children have good oversight of their care, you are sadly mistaken. As for being taken advantage of, guess what? Adult children are often the biggest exploiters there are. I've seen first-hand how many have no interest in parent's care only their inheritance (don't visit, don't call, don't engage with medical team). Having kids is no guarantee that your final phase of life is going to be secure or comfortable. PP has it right - live your life to the fullest, contribute where you can and leave this world with no regrets.
