His initial tox screen came back negative. That doesn’t mean he is clean for sure but it does mean he didn’t have any major illicit drugs in his system.
Illegal drugs were not suspected. That's just the process for the preliminary tox screen, followed by the more in-depth one. He had a number of prescription drugs on hand. The likely culprit, some mix that wasn't good with heat and possible dehydration.
There didn’t need to be any drug interaction or action to cause his death. A middle aged man with a weakened heart, fresh off a fatiguing two hour pickle ball session, enters a hot tub which has the known effect of causing lowered blood pressure and increased heart rate. A hot tub mixed with dehydrated body (two hours working out) and weakened addict heart is a clear recipe for cardiac arrest and drowning. As I type this I’m sick at heart that this is, of course, the big question and obsession of so many people right now. Personally I hope he was sober but I’m sure he has some therapeutic levels of various stuff and some people will see that as the reason even if not. I just wish he had been careful about his recovering body and using the tub. He should have always had his assistant or some other person in attendance while using the tub. I hope some of the middle aged people with possible heart disease (many of us have some degree of it by midlife without even knowing it) reading about his death will reconsider using their own tubs solo because this is not a rare occurrence, it is very easy to pass out from the cardiovascular effects of hot tub immersion and then drowning is very easy from there.
Do you play pickleball pp? I do and I can tell you it isnt that taxing!
