As opposed to the suburban sprawl of other metro areas?  At least the sprawl is outside the capital of the United States with all that it offers.  No, DC is not NYC or LA, but it's more cosmopolitan and has more "culture" than any city in Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, South Carolina, etc.  And while it isn't as quaint or charming as some towns, remember that young people aren't looking for the same things as retirees. Chicago has suburbs in close by Indiana that are attached to that city and even have commuter rail service.  Imagine that! [/quote]

The Indiana suburbs of Chicago by definition are part of the Chicago metro area so aren't representative of the rest of the state.  Plus they're bedroom communities to a large extent, rather than lively cultural hotspots.  And of course they include lovely Gary, Indiana. [/quote]

And the Virginia suburbs of DC are representative of the rest of the state with, “lively cultural hotspots?”  The original statement was that ANY cities in Indiana, which has to include  the ones near Chicago, have less culture than any city in the DMV’s sprawling suburbs.  Newsflash, they both depend mainly on culture from cities outside of their respective state’s. [/quote]
