Leaving aside the search issue, the school has stated that the shooter did not respond to official requests for interviews with school staff.  At a minimum, I would think it would have been appropriate to suspend the student until he was cooperative.  This kind of incident may have happened anyway, but he would not have been on the bus.

I also would not be at all surprised to hear he has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia- he is at the prime age for it to manifest, and his publicly described behaviors sound consistent with such a diagnosis.[/quote]
