"They feel like this is David versus Goliath. How do you go up against the federal government, when the government has decided to make an example out of you? How can you possibly move forward from this?' a source close to Loughlin, 55, told People.
Ridiculous. The government did not choose to make an example out of them. They could have been one of many if they had plead guilty and exhibited contrition at the discovery, when the earlier cases did so. Then the government would be much more leniant, like it was for the first several who have been convicted. All of them got below the minimum sentencing guidelines and the prosecutorial requested sentences. But the defiant not-guilty plea, the sucking up the media to make it look like the government were fools and the insistence that they did nothing wrong is what got them in the bind they are in. They have no one to blame but themselves, first for flaunting the law, then for turning their case into a bigger media circus than it was and singling themselves out from the pack and then for their deceptive defiance. Some people have no shame whatsoever and then to claim that the government is persecuting them in addition to prosecuting them is true gall.
This. It's truly despicable.
