Well at least we know that Pat "get rid of gifted and talented programs" Hynes supports Elaine Tholen. Very reassuring.
FCPS is required by state law to meet the needs of academically advanced students. Hynes has challenged the AAP model in FCPS that separates kids into different tracks based on tests in second grade. She is not alone in her views, either within FCPS (just look at the AAP forum) or outside FCPS (other systems like Arlington have rejected the AAP model of FCPS). I actually haven't heard Tholen speak about that issue, other than to note at least one of her kids was in AAP. Tholen's interests in planning and environmental sustainability would earn her Hynes' support, although of course Hynes has no sympathy for candidates like Mobasheri and Karloutsos who make preserving Langley's boundaries in perpetuity their primary campaign issue.
