Americans are sour losers!! ALWAYS blame on someone or something!! She lost dumb a$$.
You do realize that Osaka holds American citizenship and has lived in the US for 17 years, while only living in Japan for three years. I get that she has chosen to play under the Japanese flag, but she is as American as anyone else who is a citizen. You can't take that away from her.
Mom is Japanese, her dad is Haitian
So is then the new young hope of US tennis Frances Tiafoe not American? He plays for the US flag, and was born here but his parents are definitely not US born. Is that what makes the difference that he was born here? Osaka's father moved to US to attend New York University, then to Japan then back to US. I presume he got US citizenship down the road, just as his daughters had. The reason Naomi and her sister play for Japan is that Japan gave them funds for tennis. USTA did not.
I don't get this last comment. Is it a problem that people are pointing out that Naomi Osaka is of Haitian and Japanese ancestry, holds both Japanese and US passports, and spent most of her life growing up in the US? I think it's kind of cool. In terms of funding, I read that the dad decided to have them play as Japanese. When you say USTA did not fund them, are you saying that they tried to get funding from USTA but were turned down? How is it decided who gets funding and who does not?
The USTA Player Development group/team whatever are notoriously incompentent - at least when Patrick McEnroe was a part of it. Player Developemnt was run by a bunch of know nothing old white guys who mostly supported children of prior tennis stars. Lots of AA players got short shrift and avoided USTA. They may be hard to find but I remember Courier and McEnroe insulting the hell out of Donald Young because he wouldnt' jump to what the usta wanted him to do. They tried to convince him to move to Spain to be Nadal's hitting partner which was a ticket to nowhere. Every time the guys got some tv time, they spent all of it insulting him. Don't even get me started on Taylor Townsend who they refused to support because of her "lack of fitness". According to a comment Everett made during the match, the USTA overlooked Naomi after she was evaluated.
I agree with you about USTA. Constant mismanagement. As for Townsend, honestly without race, gender, etc, do you think she could have benefited from weight loss? USTA handled it poorly, no doubt, but look at that scrawny Djokovic, how fast he moves, is being fit and slimmer better for tennis player? I keep thinking Townsend could have been top 20 by now if she was more fit. I don't think her arms and legs and their size is the issue, I think her pooch is slowing her down. If you look at Serena, she is slim in her middle and powerful in her limbs. Just what is your opinion on how that extra weight affects her(or any players) movement on the court?
