My impression from the meeting tonight is that Kingsbury is not going to happen -- or, if it does, it will be many years before kids are actually attending. The whole plan gets scrapped if the school can't convince the zoning authorities to DOUBLE the zoning for the school from 300 to 600 students. And the existing school there has to find new space. And acceptable lease-to-own terms have to be reached. I also don't see how the school can afford this. Even if it comes together, they would be phasing kids in from the existing campuses over several years (no plan yet on how this will happen). Kingsbury right now is just the admin thinking it's a nice building and paying an architect to mock up a new layout. No real steps have been taken to make it happen.
Were you at the meeting? Did they agree to shuttles? what's going to happen to current kingsbury students?
Yes I was at the meeting. Several parents from Wards 6 and 8 spoke up in favor of shuttles. Other parents from Ward 4 were against it -- because they won't benefit. The Biard said it would be discussed, but didn't sound like they really backed the idea. There was a weird class divide, with Christina and some minority parents talking about gentrification as a negative while white parents were asking for help getting their kids to school. There was mention of current Kingsbury students being able to stay for several years before LAMB moves in. But it's just talk. No lease or even a letter of intent has been signed. Kingsbury is a goal, not a right or a plan yet.
PS -- car pooling was also mentioned as a possible travel option by Diane. Translation: you all can figure out transportation yourselves. I think the pro bus/shuttle people are going to have to agitate for help. The Ward 4 boosters seem to be in control and do not care.
