I think there were two different programs this year. For one of them anyone who was willing to pay could sign up. For the other, I think they identified kids. That one cost more and I think they played in some games?

I’d disagree that a parent coming from rec would have no idea of their kid’s talent level. With our oldest, we could tell they were pretty good and would make a higher level team. Our youngest really likes soccer, but I would say they are just OK right now. They’re one of the better players on their rec team but still sufficiently challenged by other good rec players. Not jumping into travel right now because they would probably get a third or fourth team offer. We will see what rec looks like next year when some of the better kids have peeled off to travel. Maybe lower level travel will make sense for our youngest if rec is no longer enjoyable or sufficiently challenging. But we would probably sign them up somewhere smaller and cheaper. I personally don’t think the bigger and more expensive clubs make sense if a kid is not within striking distance of the top team.[/quote]

Nope.  The kids selected for the U8 Valor Rising program are evaluated before being accepted.  The U7/U8 Valor Lite Program which is a 1 day a week supplemental program while they still do rec.[/quote]
