But, no.  This administration (and many on this site) argued that until Russia actually [i]did something[/i], the sanctions could not be imposed.  
And, the video montage above shows that this administration WAS threatening sanctions to deter Russia - completely contrary to what Biden claimed yesterday.

Maybe someone should play all those clips for Biden and see what he has to say that they never claimed sanctions were a deterrent.  [/quote]

Meh, who cares? You’re splitting hairs. We didn’t impose sanctions ahead of time because it would’ve muddied the message that Russia was the aggressor. If we impose sanctions first, Russia starts hammering the “victim” narrative and uses sanctions as a pretext for war. This would’ve undermined the United front across Europe against Russia.

So yeah, I’m glad we didn’t impose sanctions first. Russia is clearly the criminal.[/quote]
