Indy had better players, Madison had the better coach. Much closer than most predicted. Hats off to Indy, heck of a run through 6A.
I don’t see much of a great coaching job at all. Here is the Madison offense: 1 sweep left off of high pick or 2 question mark from X If it doesn’t work, just run it over and over. No adjustments, no other game plan. Poor coaching on O. D plan was very good. Did 1/2 the job!
This is a great take. I am very disappointed that the Madison coach made NO adjustments at the half. It was very clear that 22 on Indy was shutting down 5 for most all of the game. I think Madison had maybe 2 goals from settled Off. I know 3 were odd man rush (first 2 and LSM score), as Indy blew the 10 man. 1 or 2 were Man-up. Horrible offensive plan at Madison.
The difference in the game was third quarter clearing from Madison. Think they only had one true possession that quarter. Great ride from Indy but Madison failed to complete passes to open players between restraining lines. Madison had several scoring chances in transition and on settled offense in the fourth but bad shot placement by them. Besides 1-2 players there weren’t many matchups to get defense rotating. I agree they definitely could have used more offball cuts in the fourth. Madison dominated the first half forcing Indy to turn the ball over several times but credit goes to Indy for sticking with it and making the plays when they had the chance. Game could have gone either way. It was a fun game to watch. Odds on favorite for player of the year I would think would go to 22 from Robinson. He’s a better player than 22 from Indy. 22 from Indy is a great player but not as good as 22 from Robinson. It was a fun season to keep up with and best of luck to everyone next year.
PP here: agree that 22 Robinson could win POY, was he his Region POY? Many times you need to be your region POY to be in consideration for the overall POY. The coaches do this and I don't agree with it, but they think- how can you be the state POY if you are not even the POY of your own region?
Yes, he was.
