That’s why I think Scenario 2 is best. It doesn’t have kids moving high schools. Only middle schools.
What are you talking about? Hundreds of kids-maybe 1000-- switch high schools downstream from Skyview in 2.
Can you give some examples of the moves please?
You can see on the map for scenario 2, click on High School. Anything in stripes is moving to a different school. 1800 kids to Skyview from other high schools and multiple secondary moves to backfill Westfield and I guess for other reasons at other schools. (How are you having this conversation if you don't understand how to read the maps?)
I was typing in street names and seeing the 3 scenarios in words. I do not pay attention to stripes. I want a specific example of what street is moving to what school so we can talk commute times.
They are moving ES from one HS to another HS. You are welcome to go and find what ever street addresses you want in thse ES boundaries. Oak Hill is moving from Chantilly to Sky View. McNair is moving from Westfield to Skyview. Coates is moving from Westfield to Skyview. Floris, at least parts of it, are moving from Westfield to Skyview Then they are moving schools to backfill Westfield, which is losing a thousand or so students. Those are the moves that are more contentious in the moment because Centreville families and some Chantilly families didn't expect to be moved since they were only focused on the move to Skyview and were ignoring the backfill necessity. The compaints about changing ES borders is no longer valid, the School Board said they were not going to be doing that. MS adjustments are going to happen and the people involved in the Skyview move were pretty well aware that was going to happen. That seems to have caught other schools off guard.
It’s my understanding that Coates, McNair and Floris are welcoming of this move. Not sure about Oak Hill but they will have to the option to opt out in the 2027-2028 year. So current 7th graders are safe from being forced to move to Skyview. Other kids can’t opt out of moving to a different high school that is not Skyview. So 7th graders who aren’t part of Skyview may still be moved from their current high schools come 2027/2028. Current high schoolers will most likely be grandfathered.
The only school that I have heard fighting moving to Skyview is Crossfield where a very vocal group of parents wants to stay at Oakton. I think the other schools are excited or resigned or some combination of both. The moves make sense due to distance and location. The moves that are being fought are the moves to backfill Westfield, which is losing a lot of students. Those moves are coming from Chantilly and Centreville. Lees Corner thought that they were safe from beingmoved from Chantilly but were sloted to Westfield in the last three scenarios. Navy might be moved to Chantilly, which seems to bother some folks. I have not been following the Centreville moves. Honestly, I have not paid attention to that mess because our school is either at Skyview or SLHS. I am more surprised at the number of people from Centerville and Chantilly that thought this was limited to Skyview and didn't read all the commentary on backfilling Westfield.
