Go UC Davis! California’s 5th best state school, with a 42% admit rate, is ranked #32 in the country. How many times can a shark be jumped?
Well the 42% admit rate is really misleading. The admit rate is higher for OOS than instate like the other top UCs. The same geographic proxy measures used by other campuses are at play here. A top scoring student 3.9 UW, max AP/DE, top awards, top ECs and high scores is more likely to be rejected than admitted coming from the Bay Area or other urban, wealthy, high performing areas. If you are out of state and have high stats this is a phenomenal target. If you are instate in an area similar to the DMV it’s still a lottery.
UC Davis has a strong in state FGLI component, my son’s urban HS, with a lot of Title 1 students, has kids admitted close to the publicized admission rate, while people have posted here anecdotally that students from their wealthier HS struggle to get admitted. Agree that it is a great OOS target because of the balance between academics and a relaxed college town setting.
Davis is not a great OOD target. Doesn’t come close to being worth the cost of oos tuition.
