They don’t even know how to operate an oven properly. And forget the thermostats even in the car. Or any instructions. The lost in translations of having someone with limited English proficiency is NOT worth it. What do you think they’d get paid for that anyhow?

DP.  It is true that a LOT of liberal families employ nannies who hardly speak a word of English and can't drive.  I can't imagine turning my children over to someone like that, regardless of what country they're from.  The PP's description was spot on.

My sister helped an illegal Colombian from Medellin last year.  She managed to get him housing but really had a tough time getting him a job without a social security number.  The brewery hired him for 3 days (legal) and paid him cash.  Day 4 they told her they can't keep him on due to the law but they want him back once he has a social security number.  The independently owned convenience store hired him on for 3 days (legal) and paid cash. Day 4 they called my sister and said they could not keep him on since he did not have a social security number but they want him back once he got his social.
She took around to around 20 independently owned restaurants. No one would hire as no social security number.
She finally found a restaurant that would take him on.

Our experience was that it was not easy to get an illegal a job. Most small business owners follow the law.

I suspect many that you assume are illegal workers are actually legal workers.

My brother is a "white plumber" who has trained and employed 16 plumbers , 13 of whom are Hispanic, and is helping all of them through their 4 year programs to become master plumbers.   He pays Federal taxes their contributions to FICA and health insurance.  In additon, every year on Thomas Crapper's birthday, he invites the community to a party for the man who relieved all of us.
