My main issue is that when he, Nadeau and Pinto speak you can tell they are people of very mediocre intellectual skill. That’s really different from the previous Councils. Even that complete lunatic White has more of an intellectual spark.
When people talk about “white privilege”, this is what they are referring to. You are right that they have mediocre intellects. They are also demonstrably incompetent. And yet they still retain a presumption of respectability by most people. There is no other way or reason why this could be possible, except effectively affirmative action for white people.
I have not ever met Pinto or Nadeau so can't speak to them, but I've spoken to Allen many times and I agree with this. The biggest thing is that I just find him so ingratiating. He's waiting to hear whatever everyone else has to say so that he can echo and endorse it. He wants his talking points and then he wants his cookie when he regurgitates them back to you. But sadly, this is true of a lot of his constituents too. There is a lot of unthinking following on the Hill. There's this very annoying feedback loop where Allen just parrots what he thinks his constituents want to hear, and his constituents parrot what they think their neighbors want to hear. It's exhausting. I'm progressive but I feel like most people around here mostly just want to sound or appear progressive. They are more interested in breathlessly recounting their latest AOC or Mayor Pete sighting at Eastern Market than actually thinking through some of these ideas. It's a shame. Everyone is so busy patting themselves on the back for having the "right" opinions that they manage to never actually do anything of use. But "hate has no home here" according to their many yard signs, so I guess it doesn't matter?
