Most of the "dudness" comes from a discrepancy in opinion on what is required to run a house with young children and underestimating one spouse's contribution while overestimating one's own.
Winner. Just because women biologically are prone to a larger worry deficit and perceived greater emotional load does not always mean the husband is a “dud”. I think women have much loftier expectations of what they “deserve” in a marriage. Whether there is a skewed perspective, a princess fantasy or what have you. Women are more naturally vocal about their displeasure in marriage (“not enough dates!” You plan nothing! Your job sucks! We need this! Etc”). What happens to dud men? Well they find someone else. Or they stay single. And what happens to the “winner” wife? Does she go on too find a perfect match? Or does does she continue to carry lofty expectations and hold a grudge and generally keep her ways of discontent that seems to always prevent her from finding the right thing? Who knows. I just know men complain a lot less than women and see more reasonable in general about martial expectation. That quote from “as good as it gets” resonates as I read the responses. “How do you right women so well. I think of a man and I take away reason and accountability”. I know it sounds sexist. I’m in a bad mood because I got in an argument with my wife. It really does seem like women are less reasonable though.
