NO WAY do I want an APE member on the School board after seeing their crazy attacks last year on the School Board and on AEM. And now continuing on DCUM. No f'ing way.
I think you are misinformed, because there are no APE members on the school board ballot.
Who are they endorsing for November?
They haven’t made any endorsements. But that doesn’t change the fact that there are no APE members on the ballot. If you believe I am wrong, please identify the APE member on the ballot.
No one said they were on the ballot. ?? As Democrats, with a candidate who participated in the ACDC process, is APE going to endorse Kadera, the D candidate?
Um, look at the very first post in this tangent where pp said “ NO WAY do I want an APE member on the School board”
Ok and? That PP doesn’t mention APE being on a ballot. I read it as “thank fcking god that didn’t happen”. Who are they going to endorse since they are “Democrats”? Kadera? Was there some obligation by participating in ACDC process?
I think APE is going to run someone again probably Miranda. Otherwise why incorporate as a political group?
I don’t think you understand what a 501c4 is. I hope you’re not the pp who said staying informed about politics is one of her hobbies.
Then please explain why they organized as a 504c4 if not to be involved in and influence future elections.
A 501c4 is a social welfare organization, which is allowed to engage in lobbying efforts to promote social welfare. Some other 501c4 organizations you may be familiar with are the NAACP, the National Organization for Women, and the Sierra Club. These organizations all engage in lobbying efforts to promote the social welfare goals of their organizations. APE's social welfare goal is the promotion of qualify education in Arlington Public Schools. As 501c4 organizations, these entities do not "run" candidates. They may endorse particular candidates, but they do not run candidates the way political parties do. Political parties and PACs are organized under 527, not 501, serve different purposes and are subject to very different regulations. There are meaningful substantive differences between these types of organizations, and trying to conflate them only reveals one's lack of understanding.
DP. Are we taking bets yet on which candidates they endorse? The “scorecard” should be entertaining.
There's a very narrow line between running a candidate and endorsing and lobbying for a candidate. APE is a lobbying group now and will actively engage in politics. It already did this. APE and the Miranda campaign were all the same people. Don't try to pretend otherwise.
Completely agree. But Miranda is out for November so we'll need to place bets for who they will endorse this time around. Who is going to magically score very well on their magic scorecard?
