[quote=Anonymous]Some reminders here: 1. Republicans repeatedly will pretend they are Democrats here because they do not have the votes on their own and need to attract Independents and flip Democrats to have any shot. 2. Very few Democrats armed with the facts would vote for Republican candidates who have embraced an elitist, anti-minority, anti-diversity, anti-LGBTQ agenda. To the extent there are a few DINOs roaming the area, they are concentrated in a single area. 3. Most of the Republicans pushing the election of Republican-endorsed candidates for the Dranesville and at-large seats are from the Langley district, and they've been mischaracterizing the plans of the School Board ever since they learned that FCPS planned to revisit the boundaries in western Fairfax if and when a new high school gets built. 4. The School Board's actual plans are more modest than claimed (i.e., they simply want to avoid increasing the concentration of poverty at certain schools when changing boundaries in the future). The mischaracterizations of the Republicans and their fronts like "Voices of Fairfax" (which has endorsed only Republican candidates) have been so extreme that Superintendent Brabrand felt compelled to clarify FCPS's intentions. 5. Virginia is not Maryland and Fairfax County is not Howard County. 6. Anastasia Karloutsos is a newcomer to Fairfax County with no understanding of FCPS's history. Her sole goal is to protect Langley's boundaries above all else, and she may not even be around after the 2020 election as her spouse is a Trump Administration official. 7. Ardavan Mobasheri, whether or not he unsuccessfully put out feelers to seek the Democratic endorsement, is another newcomer to the county and even more committed than Karloustos to elevating Langley's interests above those of other FCPS schools. 8. Elaine Tholen is a 25-year resident of the county, a licensed teacher and educator, an environmentalist, and a solid choice to represent all the communities in Dranesville. The next School Board is going to remain controlled by candidates endorsed by the Democrats (the only question is the margin), and there's no benefit to Dranesville residents having a School Board member who is isolated and marginalized as would be the case with either Karloutsos or Mobasheri.
