I'm really terrified of my children eating, licking, breathing in, or otherwise consuming the silica-infested play sand in my backyard sandbox. Someone told me that beach sand is available off the coast of Oregon, but I'm thinking of flying in something from Hawaii, maybe from the black sand beaches in Kona? Or would the black sand permanently stain the tennis-whites and other designer clothing that I just bought for my 2 year old girl?? Thoughts anyone??? TIA!!!! :)-
Good news! There's a cooperative sand de-silicafacation meetup and soy latte potluck in the Granolan Heights of NW every other Tuesday of the month. Except for August when many members are in Belize like us 8) collecting sustainable sand. Should you go the Kona route :hunf: over the lower impact Yucatan blend, try to neutralize your backyard carbon footprint by getting outfits at the hemp store in Adams Morgan (actually there really is one, no joke). The clothes can be easily handwashed in Rock Creek. Our au pair from Bhutan says this is better karma than using the high efficiency machine we imported from Germany. At least it's recyclable stainless steel!
