Not trying to digress from the offer/selection process for the incoming U15s, but the recent signing of international players to the DC United first team raises familiar questions about the academy’s development and pro pathway. Is there truly no homegrown talent in the pipeline that the DCU Academy has been developing and can promote? Are there no U.S. players ready to make that step? Like many have said, don't chase the patch. Not getting an offer may be a blessing. I know this has been debated across hundreds of pages in this thread, but the latest signings feel like further evidence that this issue.
LOL.... because all other MLS senior teams are made of 98.6% academy players I'm always shocked when Barcelona with their top academy buys Senior players
No Academy player at DCU will actually play for the first team in a legitimate league game in the next two to three years. Maybe longer. No player that entered DCU after 2020 when it became fully funded and free has played first team.minutes. Any academy player at DCU that played real.minutes for the first team enteref the academy prior to 2020 and were part of a better system at DCU. This lack of recent academy players having any impact on or even being a real part of the first team is indicative of a larger problem and that is DCU doesn't develop players in their academy and has no intention of using the academy to make money.
I saw stats yesterday that except DCU, all other MLS academies have a 100% record producing professionals and 85% of the Men's teams come from their academies
