This. This is why I was disappointed my child didn't get in. They require these kids to do these tests, they do well, and they don't weight the objective information over the subjective HOPE scores. In science, we rely on the objective information validated by more objective information. If the subjective data/information supports the objective, even better, but don't rely on the subjective over the objective and expect people to not scratch their heads. [/quote]

Many school systems have achievement/aptitude test thresholds, where kids exceeding them are automatically admitted.  The teacher recommendation and portfolio reviews are only used to admit additional kids into the program who did not meet the thresholds.  This would be the most rational way for FCPS to run its program, as well, since it would cut down on unnecessary packet creation and reviews for kids who deserve to be in, but still give a chance to the kids who are performing well in the classroom but not testing especially well. I doubt FCPS would ever do this, since it would make it more difficult for them to meet their target demographics for the program.  [/quote]
