BF was running on all cylinders
Wow. Maybe freedom coach should think twice pushing his players for all state awards over BF girls…
Be nice 😊
Wait, didn't he get 3 of them on the state team on offense alone?
thats crazy since they were a ~.500 team, how'd he manage to do that?
To get on the state team you have to be 1st Team District and 1st Team Regional, right? So, if a team comes from an easier district and region, then they can get a disproportionate number of players as first team all-Region. Then they will have a disproportionate chance at all-state. I think that's how it works. Obviously correct me if I'm wrong.
that sounds about right, but was curious about what the BF commenter meant when the FSR coach tried to push awards over the BF players
Not the OP, but FSR and Battlefield are in the same district and region. So I assume the OP meant the FSR coach was pushing for his own players over BHS players in those meetings. Not the OP though, so just a guess.
This is spot on. And one said player was coaches daughter.
Isn't the job of the coach, to promote their players.
Promote. Yes. Undermine the system. No. How can someone in their right mind justify that move when they lost to the other team 21-3 (last year)?
Curious, how did the coach undermine the system. I don't understand the issue? Don't the coaches vote?
would you still vote for your own player if another crushes your team and you clearly know that the other team has the best team and player?
That's one vote right, did the coach convince everyone else to vote the same way?
Coaches nominate players for All-District voting, but coaches can not vote for their own players. That is part of the problem. Coaches from a school like BF, can't vote for their own players, but are forced into voting for players from other teams giving them points. And you are forced to vote, you can't not vote. Only 1st Team All-District can move forward to All-Region, and in that particular Region, FSR and Gainesville are at the top, but still way behind Battlefield, so these players at made it out of District Voting on the 1st Team, are almost very likely for 1st Team All-Region. You can't compare 1st Team All-Region between the Regions as the overall strength of the Teams in the Region isn't balanced. It's a flawed system, based on District/Regions having an equal number of All-District and All-Region players at each position. Any coach that doesn't advocate to the other voting coaches on the merits of their players to try and get votes is their job. If anything you should be annoyed at the coaches that don't even bother to show-up because none of their players will get anything. If they showed up to vote, BF players would likely get more top votes, but when they don't, the votes still slide to other players, as BF can't vote for their own players.
Thanks for the additional info. Before voting, how do the coaches advocate? Does each coach get open mic time? Do they pass around player resumes with stats? Do they talk about team results advocating or just individual resumes? I could see it getting very heated if a coach said, we beat team X by 20 goals, therefore girl A on my team deserves the spot more than girl B on team X. I always thought it came down to individual states. Also, if coaches have a lot of 1st Team All-Regions, are all the players automatically nominated for all-state, or does the coach need to focus on advocating for just the very best of the big list. Not trying to be argumentative, really just curious.
