DH says I'm a chocolate snob. I only like chocolate from places like Belgium or individual chocolate shops, where each piece looks like a work of art. For me it's the texture and combination of flavors. Dark is my favorite, but I also love milk and sometimes white. I especially love nuts, fruit or toffee in the chocolate. And I love crispy or crunchy over smooth. If it's chocolate that comes from a grocery or chain store, I have zero interest. It all just tastes so grainy. We vacationed in CA near Sees Candy and it was pretty good. I only have chocolate candy once a year or so if we travel somewhere that has a specialty chocolate shop. It's also handy to be this kind of snob now when we have buy chocolate for Halloween and end up with extras. I have no temptation, and donate to the food pantry on Nov 1.
See's Candy is considered the Hershey's chocolate of California. I live in SF, and work about a block and a half from a See's - I would never buy anyone chocolate from there. If you're ever in SF, try Dandelion Chocolate, Christopher Elbow, or Recchiuti.
I also remember Diane Kron in Malibu. Are these similar to K? I doubt I'll ever get back to CA again, but thanks for the suggestions.
