I believe it. They each have a song titled Happiness, and it is about the other. In hers, she sings, "I guess it's the price I pay for SEVEN years in heaven." This is on the evermore album, released in 2020. Who knows when this particular song was written, but it means that she & Matty were meeting up or at the very least exchanging love signals since 2013, or earlier. [/quote]

They did publicly date in late 2014, briefly,
when she went to a few of his concerts, he dedicated fallingforyou to her at one of them, then was photographed wearing the 1989 album shirt and she wore his band’s shirt out in public. And then they split up. I am guessing Tree Paine and his parting and drugs had something to do with it.

I am not sure what you mean by they peaked in 2012-2016 because their latest 3 albums released in 2018, 2020 and 2022 all went to #1 and are widely considered their best. They were on a sold out, 1.5 year long world tour in 2023-2024 and just headlined Glastonbury. [/quote]
