"I'm such a good person! I wear my mask! I do whatever the cdc tells me to do. If Fauci says boost, I say shoot me up!" Thankfully this forum isn't real life. No one cares irl.
It differs from place to place. My in laws live in a community full of Trumpsters and nearly everyone is unmasked and few are fully vaccinated let alone boosted. Although many of their neighbors and coworkers have had Covid more than once or are struggling with long Covid, they can’t deviate from what the people around them do. Yet they are shocked when Grandma dies or Junior is hospitalized.
Both are wrong. COVID purity moralizing is extremely off putting. Nobody who doesn't already agree with you is going to be convinced to change their behavior. If you are just literally posting about rising case rates or your personal experience with long COVID, I do think that can be valuable. But if you are just shouting into the abyss about people not taking COVID seriously enough, you're not achieving anything.
Please take your admonishment that "Nobody who doesn't already agree with you is going to be convinced to change their behavior" to heart. People have picked their sides at this point. Thinking of people on the other side of the line from you as psychopaths and P.O.S. isn't helping sway them to your side, and I don't think it's healthy mentally for the person who's doing it, either.
I don't think of "people on the other side of the line" are psychopaths and P O Ss. I think there are some pro mask/lockdown posters who behave horribly/dishonestly on these boards who are P O Ss and psychopaths. These are people who post falsehoods repeatedly and ignore when someone posts proof that they are wrong. People who say any child's mental illness was caused by their parents. I've seen that gem a lot. People who insist than anyone who isn't masking right now didn't make any sacrifices in 2020-21 - also a common talking point. Those posters are psychopaths.
Everyone on the pro-masking side will eventually give up masks. In other words, the people in favor of normalcy will "win." It's truly crazy that people are planning on giving up normal socialization for themselves and their children indefinitely. Lack of normal socializing will also cause changes to the brain and remodeling of circuitry...
Nice theory, but these things don’t happen in a vacuum. If Covid continues to diminish peoples’ quality of life, you may very well see the opposite happen.
And that is what you desperately want to happen which is why you read into studies things that are not there. Meanwhile, the rest of us realize that keeping our kids isolated at home definitely does harm them, and we choose to prioritize preventing the harm we know will happen, vs the theoretical harm that some random people insist will happen to everyone who gets COVID. Especially since so many of us have had COVID, and not only are we fine but our bodies subsequently fought off other infections as well just like they did pre COVID. Long COVID is of course a risk, unfortunately life is full of risks.
My kids are at school right now. They have masks on, but they are at school. Last night we went to a Christmas concert full of unmasked people. We are well aware that life has risks. Saying that that’s what I want is your incorrect opinion. Being concerned about a possibility in the future does not mean you want that to happen. The reality is unless you get a full work up post Covid, you don’t know. It would be impractical for everyone to do so. And that’s fine that people are willing to accept that risk. I’m not sitting here banging the drum saying everybody go back home. All I’m saying is that I think there is quite a bit to these studies on Covid. Saying that doesn’t mean I’m happy about it. I would expect you could understand the difference.
You are wildly misinterpreting these studies and then spreading misinformation online. That is not cool. You need to recognize there are things you are just not qualified to assert. You should stick to what the authors of the study actually conclude. It might not be as exciting but at least you won't be lying to people.
I quoted the authors directly about follow up post infection. If you don’t like that some of us think that Covid is harmful, then move along.
Great, then stick to that and leave out your editorializing about how everyone is going to go back to masking because their quality of life will be so diminished by long COVID. You are fear mongering and misinterpreting the science.
I NEVER said that. You are the disingenuous one.
This is an anonymous message board, so I have no way of knowing what exactly you said, but you clearly believe everyone who gets COVID will be impacted by it long term. The studies you are citing and quoting do not support that assertion. You are mischaracterizing them. Stop lying to people. If you have a personal feeling that everyone around you who isn't doing what you are doing is totally screwed, say that, don't pretend the studies support your lunacy and self-righteousness.
Where have I been self righteous? You sure sound it though. I am very careful with my words and have said “may” in response to others saying “will”. You don’t have a problem with their stating assumptions as fact I noticed, since you see them as on your side. I fear everyone may become impacted even if indirectly because the costs of long Covid alone are likely in the trillions now. I never once said people who aren’t doing what I am doing are totally screwed. That is your inference. You sound unsettled at the prospect.
Okay, at this point I have no idea what you are talking about. Just like I don't know which posts you made, you don't know which posts I made. Yes, I am unsettled about people who post misinformation online. As you know, misinformation can be quite harmful. Your "fears" are just that, to cite studies that supposedly support them, when they do not, is dishonest. You're obviously not willing to admit that, which is unsurprising since you are a dishonest person.
I never said you can assume effects in severe cases definitely carry over to mild infections. I simply said you can't discount the effect of Covid on the brain in severe cases of autopsied patients. I said that because the mechanism by which it ages the brain COULD also be why milder cases experience brain fog and other neurological issues. I stated nothing as definitive cause and effect, despite your repeated attempts to characterize me that way. And I have been called a fear monger many times on this page when I said: Covid likely coming to US (back in early Feb 2020) and will dramatically change life as we know it Strong evidence that Covid is airborne Kids likely do catch Covid Kids likely do spread Covid Immunity debt not likely the reason for RSV and flu surges I have never once acted like I have all the answers, and if I could wipe Covid off the face of the earth by giving my right arm, I sure as hell would. It's easy to characterize people who say things you find uncomfortable as crazy or fear mongers, but if they aren't stating their theories as fact, but rather expressing opinions to explain what could be going on, trying to shut them down on a discussion board is kind of absurd.
I am so glad that we can agree that the studies you cited do not offer evidence of long term harm in mild cases of COVID. I suspect you'll continue to cite these studies to support your personal feeling that they do, which is incredibly dishonest.
It's dishonest to put words in people's mouths that they never said. How about you stop?
Stop lying and I'll stop calling it out.
You are unhinged. And you do sound very scared.
textbook transference
I'm not the one so threatened by other's opinions, expressed as opinions.
I've repeatedly said the problem is not your opinions, it is that you falsely claim they are supported by the studies you cite.
