It makes 100% sense to me that the founding families would do whatever what necessary financially and otherwise to keep the school open until their kids graduated. It sounds like no-one was learning much of anything so even a transfer to public would be exceedingly rough on these kids. I would have done the same for my kids. Now, if others with younger kids didn't seek out an alternative option for next year mid 21-22 when the school was pooling parent funds to buy food and the like? Well, that's on them. Who in their right mind (if I am frank) would not have secured another option (any option) a long time ago? And frankly, any public would be better than this. I'm a long time DCPS school parent whose kids ultimately transferred to Big3 privates for high school and guess what? They did well and had learned quite a bit in public.
The problem was that the families of these seniors kept alive the myth that Whittle would be able to weather the storm, when, for everyone else, an orderly plan to wind-down anoounced last December/January would have served them better.
But why in the world would anyone believe this myth? Who in their right mind would believe that "investors" would step up and throw more good money (to the tune of millions) after bad? It just blows my mind. I don't care was telling me that things would miraculously turn around---the board parents, my best friends, the US president or anyone. If the school can't meet it's payroll for months, cannot feed the students, is being sued for millions upon millions of dollars, is on it's umpteenth cohort of teachers then I would get the heck out of there as would any reasonable person. Heck, I'd have withdrawn my kids long ago for any of these things or even a rumor of these things. It's really remarkable that anyone fell for any of this.
