I thought that was Aunt Lydia and the "handmaids are respected job" thing. She wasn't happy about any of the mouth stuff when they were in DC. Part of her "belief" is that they are doing this for God, and God wouldn't want them treated barbarically. They are supposed to be treated "well" (which is why they pretend its not rape, either). (I don't know how she gets her head around the torture part. I guess that just happens to individual handmaids, and usually because they threaten the life of a [i]baby[/i].) [/quote]
