FYI, NATO's article 5 for mutual defence has been invoked once, after 9/11.  Al Qaeeda also did not have a large GDP, but NATO came to our assistance.   NATO protects against the disruptions Russia can do in Europe, as well as enable coordination against other threats.   Its part of the security architecture that has protected democracy in the post war world.    It may well need to evolve to deal with threats like cyber war, but it is not obsolete, and the current admin in its official positions does not say that it is. [/quote]
