I don't think it is the same for everyone. Wealth isn't that high for me, but "social status" (is he good at his job regardless of the money it makes, does he have friends and do people like him), intelligence, sense of humor, ability to make conversation, interests and hobbies can make up for a lot in terms of a guy's physical appearance. 
 IOW extreme social status offsets other weak areas, and appearance is negotiable. Despite your opening sentence to the contrary, did you not just totally agree with the PP? [/quote]

No, I disagree because for me personally wealth is minimally important and "extreme wealth" cannot compensate for any other failings.  I have my own money and don't need anyone else's.  But I am widowed and not really that interested in getting back into serious (vs. casual) dating, so maybe it doesn't matter.[/quote]
