Don’t traffic cameras reduce interactions with police? Don’t people want that?
I like the cameras. Now I can speed everywhere except in the few places where I know there are cameras. I’ve never gotten a camera ticket. Before all the cameras, I had to be much more careful because a police officer could be lurking anywhere.
That's exactly the reason I hate cameras. They slow drivers down for a couple of hundred feet in well-known locations and leave them free to speed everywhere else. The cameras will only ever be effective in reducing traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities in DC when the city is blanketed in them.
We have more traffic cameras per person than almost anywhere else in the entire world.
