Don’t traffic cameras reduce interactions with police? Don’t people want that?
Absolutely not. I want a human to decide if someone actually deserves a ticket.
What makes you think an expensive impartial piece of purpose built equipment is less accurate than an implicitly biased human?
Oh brother. Sounds like you have never driven a car in Washington D.C.
Please school me.
I get a lot of traffic camera tickets. Never for speeding. I've never gotten one for speeding. If you drive, you know there aren't very many places in the city where you can speed because the blocks are short and there's lots of traffic. But I get one every couple months for stop signs. They're almost always laughably petty. I've gotten many tickets because they said I only came to a complete, full stop at the stop sign for two seconds instead of three seconds. I've gotten tickets because I stopped for three seconds, but my bumper was hanging over the crosswalk. I've gotten tickets because I stopped before the stop sign and, when I couldn't see whether traffic was coming because my view was blocked by a parked car, I pulled up so I could see better and stopped a second time in the crosswalk. They gave me a ticket for that too, even though I stopped twice. It doesnt matter if no one else is at the intersection. How does that improve safety? It doesnt. If you look at traffic camera statistics, about half of them are issued for stop sign and red light violations, not speeding.
