This is one school district doing something stupid and crazy. The vast majority of schools were never reading pride puppy to students. The implications of this court ruling are going to be very serious and likely negative for the quality of education in the US. People are going to use this court ruling to opt out learning about anything they don't like regardless of whether it is reasonable or not. Good luck teaching students about, evolution, genetics, cancer, pregnancy, history, earth science, or even reading fiction books.  A handful of crazy parents will be able opt out of any topics they don't like and effectively have veto authority over the curriculum. [/quote]

Unwarranted hysteria. Just because Maryland went off the deep end doesn’t mean we will suddenly see parents opting out of a million topics. Everything was just fine before they mandated Pride Puppy and it will be just fine when SCOTUS shoots them down.[/quote]

The lack of opt out in Maryland is what, less than a year old? Creationism has been a belief forever yet we didn’t see an epidemic of opt outs before this year.

Because you can't necessarily opt out of stuff right now, unless it is sex Ed. Most states have opt out laws for sex Ed, but not for other issues. The supreme court filling will greenlight opt outs for basically everything and give parents standing to sue public schools even if their request is unreasonable.[/quote]
