First of all, the program is still under discussion. There’s no funding, no clear plan, and no staffing in place, nor is there a curriculum. Secondly, this isn't a good compromise; the MVA offered access to a full curriculum and live teaching, which was a much better option. Who are you to determine what's best for someone else's child? You wouldn’t want us making decisions for your children, so why should you dictate what’s best for ours?
Public schools don't attempt to provide the "best" education for the individual needs and desires of every child and parent in the system. They can't. While you're perfectly free to determine what is best for your own child, you can't demand that the system establish and pay for a program that satisfies your wishes.
Do you realize how many specialty programs MCPS does have? So, what is the difference and why should we have some but not others? Why should your kids needs get met, but not mine?
My kids needs aren't being met. He's in a self contained class. But he's 2e. He can either have on grade level (which is really below grade level) academics and small supportive classes or Advanced academics and no support. I'm given 2 options. If I don't like either of them, I'm free to choose to pay for a private education. Sure, I would like MCPS to offer small supportive classes with advanced academics, but that's not going to happen. MVA might have been an option but he needs the social emotional support and for him, virtual is great since it's an escape. However, it does not prepare him for the future and his ability to function in college.
