It's crazy to me that so many people are focused on their kid playing in college. Why? You are paying a fortune in college tuition for your kid to get an education and take advantage of all the amenities of college life. Spending all their time playing a sport instead of enjoying college life and academic pursuits, for no purpose? Then they graduate and get a 9-5 like everyone else.
Some parents have a really hard time letting go of their identity as a sports parent. They’d rather their kid play a sport at a school no one has heard of, than play club or not at all at a bigger/better school. I was a D1 athlete and some of the parents were still super involved in a way that surprised me. My parents were too far away to be that invested, and were never those parents in the first place. I felt bad for some of my teammates because their parents seemed disappointed or even angry if their kids didn’t perform up to expectations. I wonder what their relationship with their parents is like now.
