Here is my plan for turning around public schools. 1) staff the bare minimum of administrators and put the salary savings towards hiring more teachers. Poll teachers on how effective and supportive their principals are and keep only the ones who have buy in from the teachers 2) zero tolerance policy on behavioral issues. Suspend and expel. Make parents deal with the crappy behavior of their kids. 3) sort kids by ability and fast track the advanced kids. Give the kids who are struggling more support and a slower pace. Bring back merit. 4) more mental health resources, more physical activity, more recess, take kids outside for lessons whenever possible and appropriate for their ages, subject matter, weather, etc..
#1 ok but I’m sure there are admin jobs that can’t legally go away (IEPs, etc). #2 is extreme and will result in fewer kids being educated. Suspend, sure. That still happens today. Expel, only for extreme cases. #3 that still happens today #4 100% agree
