I would not have rushed had someone paid me to do so, but I always find it odd when people seem eager to perform their contempt for frats and sororities... especially if they would be thrilled to see their kid get into Cottage or Ivy at Princeton. And, in defense of sororities and fraternities, the application process is certainly more egalitarian and democratic than bullshit like Skull and Bones or the final clubs at Harvard, which are truly epicenters of the most obnoxious douchebraggery I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing.
+1 I deliberately picked a college with no Greek life, that's how sure I was that I didn't want to be a part of it. But reading the venomous anti-Greek posts vs the more balanced and reasonable Greek defenders, I feel like I would probably have had a great time had I been in a sorority. I'm neutral on whether my daughter should rush or not at her large university - going to leave it up to her.
You probably just didn't see all of the really gross posts in this thread from the "pro-Greek" side that, of course, got deleted.
I've read the entire thread. What "really gross posts" are you referring to? I've seen some incredibly rude and ignorant comments from the anti-Greek contingent. Really not making your case - at ALL.
There were several people calling non-Greek people "homely", calling their daughters ugly, "couldn't get a bid", etc. Real high school mean girl "cool table" vibes.
Hmm. Referring to sororities as a “ridiculous bunch of shallow women, idiots, the entire world is laughing at you, idiotic sorority, sad little lives, backwater,” and so much more, to be just as indicative of high school mean girl behavior. YMMV.
I think only about half of those comments were actually said. Seems like projection, but *shrug*.
Maybe you should go back and reread from the beginning of the thread. All of those comments were direct quotes. But if you want to pretend they weren’t, that’s entirely a you problem - one of many, I suspect. *shrug*
