We will celebrate this year as any other year. If you dislike the US so much, please move. I am first generation American and I know the sacrifices my parents made to get us here. America is still the best country in the world, regarding of what the media spin is this week.
Please stop with the “best country in the world” cr@p. If you’re middle class or wealthy it’s not a bad place to live. But the US doesn’t ever even make it to the top of any quality of life lists. I’ve lived in 5 countries and they’ve all had their issues, though some definitely offered a better quality of life for me.
Totally agree. We are an International Family. Living in the States has certain benefits (particularly with regard to furthering my career, and my DH’s career) But there are many other places in the world that offer more culture, safety, freedom, and a higher standard of education than the US. For those who realize that Independence Day is a farce, and wish to live elsewhere, I encourage you to spread your wings and fly. Enjoy what the world has to offer while you are still on it. After all, there is more to life than cheap petrol, a “right” to own battle weapons, and having MacDonalds Restaurants everywhere.
Ughhh “International Family” poster strikes again. Honestly I cringe when I read these posts because they remind me of me when I first started traveling to Europe as a teen. I thought I was sooo changed and sooo cultured, basically because I spent no more than a week or two at a time in multiple Western European capitals, eating, drinking, and doing touristy things. But the older I’ve gotten, the more I realize that traveling exposes you to great things about other places, but it also reminds you of what’s good in your own country, despite its imperfections. I roll my eyes so hard at the “hate The US/worship Europe at all costs” mentality. It tells me that person doesn’t have an actual understanding of the world and the people in it. But sure, calling gas “petrol” on a US based forum is just the height of sophistication.
Yet, international family won't leave because she and DH have better careers here than elsewhere. Quelle dommage -- the filthy lucre means we are stuck with International Family until the browning of American becomes a bit too much for them.
Hello. As one who has posted periodically mentioning my International Family, please allow me to respond to my critics: 1. I mention “petrol” because that is how those of us from other parts of the world refer to it. We are not Americans. Living here does not mean I will give up my vocabulary. 2. No, I am not Russian. Nor am I in the service of Putin. 3. You are stuck with my International Family until my DC finish their schooling, but that may change. (By the way, we are multi-racial. Your comment about “browning” sounds like typical right wing filth.) Since I last posted, there has been another mass shooting perpetrated by one of your politically crazed youth. How he managed to avoid notice shows a colossal failure of your system. I hope you collectively spend more time examining the faults of the US, rather than those you imagine exist with my family.
1. When in Rome do as the Romans. Petrol is easily referred to as gasoline. 2. So no diplomatic immunity and have to pay taxes on our petrol. 3. So added to the better careers, you now have better schooling for your child. Again, a taker from the country you criticize. 4. Of course, you are multi-racial as well as International -- that makes you even more fearful of the browning of America. You could be considered one of the lessers 5. Do tell use about your brilliant countries, and there will be many colossal failures of your system. Two of those failures--to provide you with careers and your child with schooling--brought you to this country. 6. If you were better people, you would return to the country that you escaped for a better life in the US and solve its problems rather than lecturing those who have given you careers and schooling.
