I don't even see the issue with ballot harvesting, as it is described here. Are there illegal votes? No? Then what is the problem?
It is ripe for voter fraud. Read: https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2021/01/26/san-antonio-campaign-worker-traded-gift-bags-for-ballot-changes-investigators-say/
But is there actual voter fraud? There are a lot of things that are ripe, but don't happen.
They want to stop organized Democratic efforts to turn out black votes, but not the Republican organized efforts in nursing homes, evangelical churches, etc. They are writing laws with the knowledge that local officials know who to selectively target for enforcement. This is how poll taxes and literacy tests and all the other Jim Crow shit worked. They didn’t explicitly say blacks can’t vote, they set up barriers that were only enforced against blacks. This is the same shit.
+1 And no Republicans oppose it.
So, just Black votes are targeted? Yea
Disproportionately, yes. Hispanics also. College students also. You know that is how it will be enforced. That’s why you support it.
You have no idea what I support. But let me tell you that I don’t support your race baiting - did not work for Biden this week either. Bring your own snacks and water and figure out how to get to your polling place or get an absentee ballot. In this day and age - it is not hard. The spoon feeding that is demanded should be insulting. If a college kid can’t figure out voting - maybe college is not the place to be.
Easy to say when you can probably stroll into a polling place within walking distance of your home or office with a short line during your employer provided paid time off. I guarantee you wouldn't be saying that if you were a working class black person whose polling place was shut down by the GOP and are forced to make the choice of taking half a day of unpaid time off to stand in an hours-long line to vote, then since you needed every penny of your paycheck, making the choice to miss rent or not eat for a few days. The privilege of "it's not that hard" is sickening. It's not that hard for you. The whole endgame of the GOP voter suppression machine is literally to make it that hard for the demographics they don't want voting.
