It's spurred by two things: (1) breakthrough cases in which a more contagious version of the virus is sickening those already vaccinated....which indicates that those who are unvaccinated will fare even worse and (2) the financial market jitters.

Maybe I'm being too cynical, but I believe it's more self-serving than that.  I think the republican 180 is based on donors (for politicians) and sponsors (for Fox News, etc). threatening to withhold funds if they don't pivot their messaging. Wealthy donors (regardless of their political affiliation) and corporations don't want to be associated with people that continue to put out misinformation that might literally result in a large number of constituent deaths.[/quote]
