I married someone outside of my “comfort zone” because I simply wasn’t having any success with my initial criteria. I ended up with someone from a different region (NE vs south) and a different religion. Ideally I would have found someone my religion in my hometown (a mid sized city.) It has worked out but has required much compromise. But what in life doesn’t?
I think there is compromise always, but when one person carries the other financially it can be a burden. I have been in relationships where my goals financially and career wise are light years ahead and eventually those relationships fell apart because I wasn't meeting my goals because I was carrying them. Compromising on religion or politics, I could live with.
It’s only a burden for women. Historically, men have nearly always financially carried women.
