They would be more thrilled to attend Stanford for CS, MIT for CS or Berkeley for CS. [/quote] If studying CS is your main goal, you can't go wrong with CMU even over MIT, Stanford and Berkeley. CMU CS is consistently ranked the best. Clearly Stanford and MIT are more prestigious than CMU. If you have the stats to get in to CMU CS, you have a good shot at MIT, and a shoe in for Berkeley.
