Someone went thru in this thread many pages ago and counted a bunch of teams (10-@) with parents coaching their own kid. And those were just the teams people who post here mentioned or knew about, so there are likely more. That's a substantial percentage of their teams, and its almost all lower-tier teams, where parents are generally unhappier anyway. Getting a substandard experience for the same price your kid's friend pays for the "gold" team with the "real" coach is a recipe for sour customers. [/quote]

Yeah that list was of coaches who do NOT have kids on their team. Another poster misunderstood what that post was trying to say, and ran with it. I think that poster was trying to say they weren't impressed with the so-called professional non parent coaches.

The only situation I know of is a 2014 boys team. The kid got moved up to the parent's team. But I heard that coach isn't going to be working with that age group next year anyway so no issue there. [/quote]

I really don't know how many. Someone with too much time on their hands seems to post about it repeatedly. I think the bigger issue is that it means Valor has trouble hiring coaches. The parent coaches generally are not put in place before tryouts in the spring. They are asked to come on board after the fact because they have already formed a team and don't have a coach. Of course a parent with some soccer experience is going to step up in that situation, because they have already paid the $3k and want their child to have a coach. I can almost put money on one parent I know being asked to coach a team or two next year, because Valor won't have hired enough. I'm going to laugh if I am right. [/quote]

why would you think its just one parent? absolutely no one has chimed in saying they would be thrilled to pay $3200 for a parent coach. [/quote]
