Balancing out the FARMS rate between Woodward and WJ is a means of promoting similar education quality at both schools. All options ignore this.
Yes, this is what makes sense. You can also solve for utilization that way and the population will be diverse, likely FARMS close to 20% in both schools. Does it solve for high FARMS at Kennedy and Blair? No. But we all need to realize that mcps is going to have a very tough time meeting budget needs next year. With this admistration cutting funding for contractors and government jobs left and right, people in this county cannot sustain the increase in property taxes that it would take to fund everything. Cuts in spending will undoubtedly have to be made. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out. Buses long distance for equity purposes — where kids can walk for free — or teachers’ jobs? What’s it going to be? How much does it cost to fund an unnecessary bus route (a bus, maintenance, insurance, fuel and a bus driver)? And what is the environmental impact of that bus? We seemingly haven’t had success in getting electric buses, so we are looking at fossil fuel.
Agreed with all of this. Also the traffic. More kids in cars. Fewer parents able to make it to over school stuff. Longer busing also increases absenteeism and being late.
