VHSL lacrosse is certainly ugly. You work with what you have, and most kids haven't gotten into the sport at a young age so the "talent pool" is very small. The ones who have played since elementary school shine. One of the problems I have identified, and has been discussed throughout the years is the holding hostage of the game and its growth by father and parental coaching. It is pretty obvious that these parents who get involved in youth league lacrosse, take over entire organizations and manipulate things for them and their boys. They inevitably then leave the organization upside down and destroyed for those that come behind them because they have intimated other parents and volunteers. They are not dedicated to the sport and their response to any objection is "you want to do it better , then you do it" and they masquerade as if they are giving the greatest sacrifice in the world. The sport in our area has been decimated by these ego maniacs and most of the time their kids are just not the best but they get all the playing time and are put in the best positions for success. The kids know it and are embarrassed. It's a shame. Then end of day we wonder why the other kids and families get disheartened and leave the sport all together to play baseball and soccer. NVYLL is a train wreck currently. NoVA needs to do better. Will never be LI or Baltimore because just not enough folks care to change things.
I absolutely disagree with this. I had three kids go through NVYLL and the level of coaching and professionalism was way above from what anyone could reasonably expect from a volunteer organization. If you want professional coaching you should sign up for travel. The kvetching about rec ball on the board is silly. If you want professional organizations you have to pay for them.
OK, amateur hour, sorry didn't redirwct DCUM's bug the 1st time. Which rec program?
