I don't want to repost the whole post, because it's long, but the photos of the actresses from 3-4 years ago make me really sad. So many of them look AWFUL now. Emma Stone looked so much livelier a few years ago. I didn't like her Oscar dress, but at the same time, who else could wear it but a waif?
I don't think that dress would have looked good on anyone.
I get the vibe of the dress -- it's got a Jane Austen heroine vibe and the fabric looked kind of magical. I just think it looked unnecessarily uncomfortable to wear and needed something more to make it work -- more jewelry, a more defined hairstyle, something. You could also tell they had to tape it to her shoulders and chest to keep it in place and it made her look so stiff and uncomfortable -- why do such a low scoop neck and back if that's how she's going to have to wear it? A shallower scoop that would have allowed her to wear it more naturally would have been prettier and more practical. It wound up feeling like a costume that needed movie magic to make work and that's not what fashion is supposed to be. These are clothes. You should be able to wear them without special tricks.
+1 and adding that dress was custom.
