Use common sense, people. [twitter]https://x.com/Mark_Penn/status/1949842822858703270[/twitter] New York Times Alert The New York Times ran a huge photo of a mother and an infirm child and represented it as a starving child in Gaza. Yet the picture itself is a contradiction as the mother is full faced and obviously not starving — but she didn’t have food for her child? 18th month olds eat solid food and no mother would feed only herself if there was a shortage and the quantity of food for the child would be a fraction of that for an adult. And now many X posts have surfaced suggesting the child has a muscular disorder from birth and if that is the case this really would be deliberate Hamas propaganda. I don’t have any direct knowledge but this has to be investigated pronto by all involved and if the these posts are true The NY Times must print as big a correction and fire those involved. Perhaps the Times will say it’s on top of the baby’s illnesses but that does not make sense as noted above and the error of omission about the baby’s illnesses would still be false and dangerously inflammatory. Let’s see what the full truth is here. Update from Matti Friedman in the free press. After the photographs were seen around the world it became clear that the child in fact suffers from cerebral palsy and other conditions unrelated to starvation. The suffering child ended up being less the intended symbol of Israeli evil than of how genuine misery can be put to use by practitioners of narrative war.
