Can’t imagine having this man for a neighbor. But on topic, I think people will cling to their 2-3% mortgages with everything they have. Some people who overextended in the past couple years with crazy rates and crazy prices might walk away but most people have tons of equity and low rates.
Yeah, if you have a low rate you stand a better chance of getting a renter to pay your mortgage for you.
Right and it’s probably a wash between RTO and all the layoffs as people living in far flung areas have to come back. It’s not just government jumping on the RTO bandwagon.
It’s not a wash. No one working in a fed or fed adjacent job will sell their home and buy a new, likely more expensive home. The people working at J.p. morgan in DC were probably in person 3x/week already and who knows how changes in the federal government could impact them. I wouldn’t be surprised if the CRA or other obligations created under TARP went away and there will also likely be less oversight and opportunities for thought leadership. If anything private sector employees whose jobs are located in DC due to proximity to the federal government will be less secure on their roles with deregulation and the Administration’s lack of engagement or concern for community development initiatives. You continue to misunderstand incentives.
