As my DS is a young man I don't think this post is accurate. I brought him up with conservative values while also teaching him to cook, clean do his own laundry, etc. Here's the thing...is it sexist to want a more traditional wife that would be willing to stay home and raise the kids...at least the first few years or so until school starts? No.
Is it sexist for a woman to want the man to stay home at least until the kids start school? What if she makes more than him? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to stay home?
No, it's not. There are stay at home dad's. That's fine too. But I'll tell you this...my DH would never have made a good stay at home dad...he lacked the knack or rather "motherly instinct"...also, seriously how do expect the father to breast feed? I know there's pumping but that's not always convenient as I will attest to. Of course it makes financial sense if the wife makes significantly more than the husband...but let's assume they make the same...I'm not going to tell you that all women have the "motherly instinct" but most do and that is simply human nature. I for one would have loved to have had the option to be a SAHM...but we needed both salaries and I was blessed to have had my mom care for my kids. My DD has told me that she wants to be able to be a SAHM for first years. I mean it's basically a conversation to be had before marriage anyways. I respect everyone's beliefs on what a traditional family should be, so should you. I find it ironic that you don't appear to.
men can stay home after the baby is weaned. And you saying, "my DH doesn't have the knack" is just making an excuse for him (and you).
